How long have you been blogging?
I started with an Old Time Cooking Recipe site in December 2006, but I turned it into blog with images in October 2012. I renamed it to Kitchen Nostalgia in May 2013.
Why do you blog?
There are number of reasons. At first, recipes were just a hobby of mine. I like collecting old recipes and enjoy inventing new ones even more. In time it turned out that it could become something more serious than just a hobby. Also, food is always an important topic in my family. My grandfather was a baker, my grandmother owned a pastry shop, another grandfather owned a grocery shop and grandmother had a local pub where she served her own food and wine that she produced. I suppose with that kind of background I simply had to inherit some interest in food.
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
I wanted the name of my blog to reflect some nostalgia about old times when women were very skillful cooks and spent a lot of time in the kitchen. I remember my mom and grandmothers doing so. My initial idea was to call it Nostalgic Kitchen, but when I wanted to buy a domain with that name, it turned out it was already taken. So I changed it to Kitchen Nostalgia. To this day I’m not sure whether it sounds right or awkward in English (I’m not a native English speaker and I don’t know anyone who is, so I couldn’t check).
What do you wish that you had done early on with your blog that you didn’t understand until later?
I wish I learned photography sooner and incorporated it into my recipes. I avoided it for too long
because I thought that it is not necessary to become semi-professional photographer just to share your recipes with people. I believe it would make a huge difference had I started earlier.
Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
My advice is to learn photography as much as you can. There is lot of free resources all over the internet, so it is not hard to find tips and tricks. Knowledge about photography makes much more difference than kind of equipment you use. Good photographer will make a great photo even with a cell phone, while a beginner will make a bad photo even if he has the best camera there is. If you are blogging just for fun, do it any way you like. But if you are serious about blogging, good photography is a must these days.
What is your favorite recipe on your blog and why?
My favorite recipe is Tomato Salsa because it is my favorite food. Unlike Mexican salsas which are sort of side dish or a dip, this is type of tomato sauce served with pasta or meat. It is hard to believe that a recipe with so few ordinary ingredients can produce something so exquisite. The recipe is simple, but it requires a few hours of cooking until ripe tomatoes are boiled down to create thick sauce. In my opinion, there is nothing better than spaghetti or gnocchi with Tomato Salsa and some grated cheese.
Another recipe that I’m proud of is Christmas Chocolate Cake which is my own creation. I called it Christmas Cake because I made it for Christmas, but you can make it any time you like. It is rich and moist chocolate cake flavored with orange, lemon and vanilla. Dry cranberries are soaked in rum and put in the batter. The cake is filled and topped with chocolate ganache filling.

If you were a fruit or vegetable, which would it be and why?
My favorite fruit is banana because of its wonderful flavor, bright yellow color and no acidity at all. But would I be one? I’m not sure.
Favorite band or singer?
For about a year I’ve been listening to soaking music. I listen to it when I cook and take photos for my blog. My favorite singers/authors are Grace Williams and Dustin Smith. (***Kelli’s Note: I had to look up what soaking music was since I had never heard of it – here’s a definition****)
I like old black-and-white comedies from 1930s – 1960s. Don’t have a favorite one.

Everything on my blog, from web design, text and photography is done by me. So all the mistakes and all good things were also mine. I wish I could express myself as good in English as I would like to, because it’s hard to write and and even harder to be funny in foreign language.
