How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
I’ve been blogging for six years. I had been baking a lot of bread, taking photos, and sharing them in a Facebook group. I had been reading a lot of food blogs, and thought I’d do it on a lark.
Do you have a secret recipe you aren’t willing to share?
No
If you were stranded on a desert island with only one food, what would you choose?
Pizza
How did you come up with your blog’s name?
I kept playing around with different options in my head, and this one kind of stuck. I didn’t want anything too cutesy, I thought it expressed what I’m doing pretty well, in that I am learning how to cook different foods, and sharing the “story” of my progress.
What are you passionate about besides food?
My kids and grandkids!
What is your favorite food to make?
Bread. It is amazing what four simple ingredients, flour, water, salt, and yeast, can create, and there is so much rhythm to the process. Baking bread is my therapy.
What is your favorite thing to order when you are out to eat?
Lately, whenever I see beef short ribs on the menu of a good restaurant, I order it and am never disappointed.
Who are some of your favorite bloggers?
There are so many! Here are a few highlights:
Sally at Bewitching Kitchen (she is brilliant and funny),
Rachael at Movita Beaucoup (hysterical, and she has a unique way of building a community)
Dorothy at Shockingly Delicious (she is so warm and helpful, and her writing is so intelligent)
Tara of Tara’s Multicultural Table (I love how she explores food from around the world, plus she is a sweetheart)
Susan of Wild Yeast Blog (she doesn’t blog anymore, but her bread posts contain a wealth of information, and I still turn to them. Also, she used to have a weekly “Yeastspotting” post where she did a roundup of breads. This really helped bring traffic to my early posts)
What are some of your favorite recipes on your blog?
I have so many! If I base my answer on what have I made over and over, I’d choose these:
Smoked salmon pate – so easy and elegant
Four Hour Country bread – this bread turns out amazing every time
Potato pizza – this one blew my mind, it’s so good
Adjaruli Khachapuri – This is a Georgian bread with cheese, and it’s amazing
Waterford Blaa – I think it’s probably the most made recipe (by readers) on the blog
Mexican Breakfast Casserole – because I love chorizo and eggs. I’ve made it over and over.
Vanilla and Chocolate Rocks – my favorite chocolate chip cookie
Crispy Shrimp Tacos – I love the method and have used it again and again
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
I love the community, and I love that I’m always learning.
