How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
I started my blog in September 2017 after wanting to start one for 3 years. I started because I love food! I have always loved experimenting with foods and recipes. When I started cooking for myself I became more conscious of where my food came from and its impact on the environment, animals and everyone along the supply chain, and soon became a vegetarian. I tried to start a couple vegetarian food blogs/instagrams during this time, which now looking back on I can see I’ve learned so much! Over the course of 3 years I slowly evolved into a vegan after learning more about the food industry and trying out more recipes. I get so many questions of what I eat, where I get my protein, and the recipes behind my ‘fancy food snapchats’ so I started a blog for real. But mostly the blog is just for myself, most my friends and family don’t’ know about it! But I love it because it keeps me accountable to keep trying new recipes, make yummy food and gives me an excuse to take pretty pictures of my food (without annoying everyone on my snapchat contact list). Lastly I love inspiring people to try new recipes and eat a more plant-based diet! I hope to give people recipe inspiration and help them make little changes to adopt a more plant-based lifestyle. I try to focus my content with easy recipes which I eat regularly that people could easily make every day. One day I hope to do recipe development for a higher end brand to experiment with more complex recipes and flavours. Going forward I hope to do more posts on educating people about living a vegan lifestyle beyond food, and bust some vegan myths!
Do you have a secret recipe you aren’t willing to share?
Nope, all my secrets are on the interweb, even my most prized chocolate recipe: 4-Ingredient Vegan Chocolate
If you were stranded on a desert island with only one food, what would you choose?
Sweet Potato, avocado or bananas!
How did you come up with your blog’s name?
Very long and methodical process! The other option was Diaries of a Sweet Potato.
What are you passionate about besides food?
I love yoga and running (so surprising and original for a vegan food blogger). I also love camping, swimming in lakes, lounging in the sun, spending time with friends and anything you can do outside! Lastly – travelling! A lot of my recipes are inspired by my favourite dishes abroad.
What is your favorite food to make?
Probably smoothie bowls (again so surprising). But they are just so yummy at all times of the day, you can put anything in them and they are so fun to decorate! I also love making rice paper fresh rolls!
What is your favorite thing to order when you are out to eat?
I love trying all the new vegan restaurants, and I’m lucky to live in Toronto where there are so many good ones. When I’m at a vegan restaurant I try to get something obscure that I would never think to make on my own. Other than that at regular restaurants my favourite is big buddha bowls, sushi and vegan pancakes (if they have them).
Who are some of your favorite bloggers?
I follow so many so closely (maybe too closely it’s hard to choose)!
For recipes my go-to’s: Oh She Glows, Hot for Food, Deliciously Ella
Other good ones for recipes: My New Roots, The First Mess, Cookie and Kate
Photography & Personality: Happy Skin Kitchen, Choosing Chia, From my Bowl
Life Inspo and Goals: Hannah McNeely
What are some of your favorite recipes on your blog?
I am always so excited about the ones I am about to post because that is usually my latest and greatest creation! I don’t want to spoil too much but right now I’m pretty excited about my latest smoothie bowl, peppermint bark and sweet potato chili (my family’s favourite).
What I eat most regularly from the blog: Pesto Zoodles, Chia Pudding & Sweet Potato Pomegranate Salad
Fan Favourites: Peanut Butter Balls & Pumpkin Spice Granola
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
My ultimate favourite thing is experimenting with new recipes, thinking of new creations / planning content and shooting and editing photos (when they work out). I am very new at this so sometimes shooting can be very discouraging and frustrating, when the photos don’t work out but equally rewarding when it works out.
I also love interacting with people that make my recipes! It’s so exciting, surprising and rewarding that people are not only reading my blog, but following the recipes and posting about it! (And also my dream come true)! If you are reading this and try a recipe, send me a photo! It makes my day and I will tell everyone I know for weeks.
