How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in February 2012. Wow – so almost 4 years now! Time flies when you’re having fun!
Why do you blog?
It started out as a way for me to hopefully meet a few people who weren’t my kids. Since I was a stay at home mom, I needed outside communication with people (adults) and I figured why not look for people who were just a passionate about cooking and baking as I am?! I didn’t realize at the time how great the blogging community was and how people I have never met would become real life friends! Not only were the other bloggers fantastic, but it opened up my world up to a world full of people who love food!
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
My original blog name was Making Meals and Memories …. it only lasted about a week, but it was the original name. I didn’t feel like the name was memorable enough and would easily be forgotten. The phrase Love Bakes Good Cakes and Brews Good Stews came to me and it just felt like that was the name I should have. Obviously, that name was way too long, so it became just Love Bakes Good Cakes with the tagline and brews good stews.
What do you wish that you had done early on with your blog that you didn’t understand until later?
Oh man …. so many things! Haha. I think the biggest thing for me was learning the importance of what having great pictures will do. Like many beginning bloggers, I took many unappealing pictures and actually posted them for all of the world to see. Gah! I cringe now when I see them, but it also reminds me how far I have come. I also didn’t monetize my blog for almost the first full year because I had no idea you could do that – or how to do that!
Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. It’s easy to get caught up in other people’s success stories and try to compare …. the only person you should compare yourself to is who you were yesterday, last week, last month, and last year. Be proud of your milestones and keep doing better.
What is your favorite recipe on your blog and why?
I can only pick one?! You know I’m a food blogger and I obviously love food, right?! Gah … this is hard. I’m going to go with my Chili – Like Wendy’s. It’s one of the very few recipes I never mess with changing or tweaking – which says something! To me, it is the perfect chili recipe!
Name a few of your favorite blogs.
I have so many! How about I tell you some of the blogs that I followed before I became a blogger myself – since they’re the ones who really inspired me to take this journey into blogging! RecipeGirl, Chef In Training, The Gunny Sack, Inside BruCrew Life, Crazy For Crust, Life In the Lofthouse, I Am Baker, Created By Diane, Kevin & Amanda, Six Sisters Stuff, and of course, The Pioneer Woman!
If you were a fruit or vegetable, which would it be and why?
I imagine I would be a snozzberry. It’s a little bit quirky, but probably a pretty awesome fruit! :D
Favorite band or singer?
I need an easier question, haha! Music is a necessity in my life. I could live the rest of my life without many things, but I could not live without music! I listen to a wide range of stuff, but some of my faves right now are The Temptations, Dobie Gray, Bill Withers, George Strait, Staind, Seether, Shinedown, Adele, Journey …. and many, many others!
Favorite movie?
I know it sounds crazy, but I’m not really a movie person. I love comedies but I can’t really say that I have a favorite movie.
