How long have you been blogging?
Nutritionicity made its debut in the blogosphere in February of this year (2015) so I am coming up on my 10 month anniversary. I can’t believe it has almost been a year! Where did that time go?
-
Why do you blog?
A few years ago when I started converting my recipes to healthier versions (gluten-free, plant-based / vegan, refined sugar-free), friends and family would often request copies of them. I began keeping Word files and emailing them upon request. Then I started taking process photos to help people get a visual of certain aspects of the prep and sending those as well. I received such great feedback that I thought there may be other people that could benefit from my recipes. And before I knew it, Nutritionicity was born! I also added product reviews to share my experiences with products that make for healthier eating.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?
Based on my own personal experience, trying to make healthier changes and substitutions to one’s diet and cooking seems overwhelming. When I started trying to redo my diet several years ago I often wished there was a resource that broke it all down and simplified things. Two of the goals of my blog are to share nutritious recipes that are still scrummy and delicious, and make them simple. So when you combine nutrition and simplicity you get Nutritionicity!

What do you wish that you had done early on with your blog that you didn’t understand until later?
My answer to this question is not unlike that of many other bloggers: Photography! While I had some experience with portrait style photography, food photography was a new and completely different art. I have learned so much over the last year, and if you look at my older posts I’m sure you won’t disagree! It’s just like learning an instrument – the longer you do it, the better you get!
-
Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
Be passionate about your topic! While some day I hope to monetize my blog, currently I do not earn income from it (nor have I tried). I invest many hours in its production. As is the case for most people, life is busy and if I didn’t have a genuine interest in my subject matter and photography I would never make the time to do it. If you love what you do, it will all come naturally.

What is your favorite recipe on your blog and why?
My Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls are one of my all-time favorites. Nothing says cozy like a flaky, buttery crust with sugar and cinnamon. As a child my mother always made the holiday pies. The leftover crust became a pie crust cinnamon roll that our family would enjoy together on Christmas morning. This is one of my favorite childhood memories. I created my Nutritionicity version of this cinnamon roll recipe while my brother and his family were visiting for Christmas last year so the tradition lives on!

Name a few of your favorite blogs
This is a very difficult question to answer. There are so many interesting and stylish blogs out there. If I HAD to choose, one of my favorites would be Charlottes Lively Kitchen. Charlotte has beautiful photography and is very generous with sharing her blogging experiences as learning points for the rest of the world. And Pinch of Yum is a great resource and super food blog – who would guess you could make that kind of money from blogging?? They are an inspiration!

If you were a fruit or vegetable, which would it be and why?
I would be a kiwi. They have that nice little furry coat on the outside and I’m always cold. The inside looks like a sunshine to me and I always like to be happy. Although, my husband said I should say I’m a habanero pepper – I’m not quite sure what he meant by that!
-
Favorite band or singer?
My favorite singer is John Mayer. Watch Where the Light Is (his live concert in L.A.) and you will become a fan overnight. It makes a great cooking soundtrack!
-
Favorite movie?
Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow. I love the message that even the most fleeting of moments in your life are significant and sometimes even life changing. If you want to know my favorite foodie movie, that would have to be Chef with Jon Favreau !
