How long have you been blogging?
The first post I published was on September 25th, 2014. If you were to ask me how long I was thinking about blogging, I would say at least two years.
Why do you blog?
I had the privilege of having a Mom who was an amazing cook and baker. Since my Mom’s passing, it has been my objective to keep her memory and my family’s food traditions alive through her recipes. That’s one of the reasons I started my blog. I am Canadian, but my parents are Italian, which also explains why so many of the old family recipes I post are Italian. The other reason is that I thought it would be a great way to share my favorite recipes with family and friends.
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
“She loves biscotti” refers to me and my love for cookies (biscotti means cookie in Italian). Given the choice between a cookie and a piece of cake, I would choose cookies, every time!
What do you wish that you had done early on with your blog that you didn’t understand until later?
I think that everyone thinks they know how to take a picture…especially with today’s technology, it’s simply a question of point and shoot, right? But, as a “recreational” photographer, I immediately realized that there was a little bit more to it than that, especially food photography. I also underestimated the learning curve of food photography. If I had to do it all over again, I’d definitely take some courses on food photography.
Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
Well, I still consider myself a newbie blogger…I have so much to learn! But I can still share my thoughts. I would truly encourage anyone who has just started a food blog to be patient with the low traffic and the less-than-perfect pictures at first. Enjoy the process, make new “blogger” friends, keep on learning and improving (whether it’s the photography or the SEO), have fun with it, and keep at it! I truly believe that the more you “blog” the better you get. Whether it’s the photography or the writing style, practice makes perfect. It takes time to be a successful blogger…so just keep doing it. That’s my advice, and that’s also my plan :)
What is your favorite recipe on your blog and why?
So many of my recipes have distinct memories associated with them…I would have to say my family’s recipe for Pizzelle, mostly because I have so many fond memories of my mom and grandmother making them and me eating them!
Name a few of your favorite blogs
Another tough question to answer because there are so many wonderful blogs. My appreciation of fellow bloggers is infinite because as a blogger, you can appreciate the work and the dedication that is associated with every post. Here are a few that still continue to inspire me after all these years.
If you were a fruit or vegetable, which would it be and why?
Definitely a tomato… because I’m very pale and it’d be nice to have a bit of color!
Favorite band or singer?
So hard to pick just one favorite, but one of my top ten would have to be Cinema Paradiso.
Anything else you would like to share about your blog – please feel free to write as much or as little as you want!
