Behind the Blogger Spotlight: Magnolia Days
Renee is always such a joy to work with and makes fantastic recipes. As I read Renee’s answers, I was struck by what thought she put into her blog banner and profile picture. Meeting her in person, one day, would be so much fun for me! Hope you will continue to join us each week as we interview bloggers around the world who contribute to Yum Goggle.

How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for 4 years. My official launch blog post, Let’s Play, published on August 8, 2011.
Why do you blog?
I love food and cooking and sharing recipes with the world. Blogging has brought such wonderful adventures, discoveries, and connections with people.
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
The street I live on is Magnolia Place. When I first started my blog I wanted to share what I doing in my kitchen and garden along with stories of my family and life. So I thought of it as “the days on Magnolia” and it turned into Magnolia Days. The bonus of it having a southern sound to it fit perfectly since I live in the south.
What do you wish that you had done early on with your blog that you didn’t understand until later?
I wish I had learned about photography before starting a food blog. The photos in my earlier posts are awful at best. Yet I keep them on there for history because I like to see the progression in my photography.
Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
Take the time to do the littlest details right from the start, especially when it comes to SEO. Don’t upload large photo files. Join blogging groups and go to conferences. The blogging community is the most sharing and giving community ever. Learn, share, and be an active participant in the community.
What is your favorite recipe on your blog and why?
It is my dad’s beef stew. I remember the day I made it for the blog. I felt like my dad was watching over me or standing beside me in the kitchen. Tears were streaming down my face as I was writing the post. I miss him and this recipe reminds me of him so much.
Name a few of your favorite blogs
Hungry Couple because I swear Anita is my food twin and I immediately get hungry the moment I see her posts. Food Lust People Love because I adore the way Stacy shares her food experiences from the places she has lived and traveled to around the world plus throws in something from her southern roots occasionally. Then there is gotta get baked because Nancy writes fearlessly straight from the heart and has incredible recipes too.
If you were a fruit or vegetable, which would it be and why?
I’m going with peach because I’m a rock on the inside (as in steady, reliable) and do my best to be sweet on the outside.
Favorite band or singer?
Linkin Park when I’m listening to alternative. Tough choice between Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac for rock.
Of all time? Oh my. If you base it on how many times I’ve watched it then it would have to be Airplane! I am serious…and don’t call me Shirley.
Anything else you would like to share about your blog – please feel free to write as much or as little as you want!
The header of my blog reflects more of me than what people may realize. The pink dahlias are from the photo I use as my profile picture on all my social media accounts. The dog silhouettes are for the three whippets I had when I started my blog. The black scroll is a nod to how my home is filled with furniture that has iron or metal scrollwork. As far as what I have planned for my blog, it is to keep sharing recipes and stories in my journey with food, cooking, wine, and gardening.
