Behind the Blogger Spotlight: Revi’s Foodography.
Over the last 10 months, we have watched Revi’s photographs go from “very pretty” to “breathtaking”. She has been one of our very consistent contributors who we oh-so-grateful for. You MUST read her About Me page. It tells you about her education, marriage to RK and then their quick move to the U.S. I am in awe of her flexibility and adaptability yet still maintaining her mirthful sense of humor……….the story of how she began her blog and the part Candy Crush plays in it is hilarious! I have noticed lately her recipes are incorporating American dishes as well as her gorgeous Indian fare. I look forward to her posts each time they arrive and I know you will become a fan of hers just like us!

How long have you been blogging?
I completed my 1st blog anniversary on 5th Dec.
Why do you blog?
I first started to cook, after marriage, once I was out of the comfort zone of my mom’s cooking. I had to fend for myself, all alone in a country alien to me trying to experiment with the recipes my mom told over phone. I used to cook and casually share the pics of the dishes, on my social media pages. But when more and more requests came from my friends asking for the recipe, I decided to start a blog. I initially started my blog as a medium to share my kitchen experiments and at the same time to benefit folks who were in a similar situation. What started as a hobby has now grown into a strong passion for cooking, photography and blogging.
How did you come up with the name of your blog?
Since there were thousands of other food blog on the blogosphere, I wanted to create a unique name for my blog which would stand out from the rest. I wanted a name which would convey both my love for food and photography. After a brainstorming session with my hubby, came up with the word Foodography which is basically Food + Photography. Revi is how I am called at home. Thus named my blog as Revi’s Foodography. I was super excited when I found that no one else had used the word Foodography.
What do you wish that you had done early on with your blog that you didn’t understand until later?
Since I was new to the blogosphere, I wasn’t sure about the frequency at which I had to post. I posted recipes daily on my blog for the first few months. Though it was very helpful in growing my blog traffic, it was a very exhaustive routine to post daily. The days became hectic and at times I wasn’t able to concentrate on my personal life and slowly started losing my love for blogging. Luckily, I realized it within a few months, pulled myself back and now I am into a nice rhythm of posting thrice a week.
Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
There are thousands of blogs available for readers to follow. If you want readers to be choosing you, it is essential that you have a style of your own and showcase your true self via the blog. Also, blogging has become more of a visual medium now, with more and more emphasis on social media to bring traffic to your blog. So, it is highly important to concentrate on the photography part for the blog. Nothing very fancy is needed. Just nice clear pics.
What is your favorite recipe on your blog and why?
All the recipes I have posted on my blog are the ones which I love to cook. If I have to pick one recipe among them, then it would be probably Gobi 65. I absolutely love a hot plate of Gobi 65 along with a cup of chai.
Name a few of your favorite blogs
There are a lot of lovely blogs I tend to read regularly. I have been following some of them even prior to my blogging days and they were an inspiration to me for starting my own blog. Just to name a few of my favorites:
If you were a fruit or vegetable, which would it be and why?
I would probably be a Banana. I love to show myself tough outside, but I am always easy to peel and have a soft heart within. Also, the banana is so versatile that all parts of the plant right from the leaves to stem are useful. I would love to be such a versatile person.
Favorite band or singer?
K J Yesudas. I love his Indian Devotional songs. It keeps me motivated whenever I have a dull moment.
Anything else you would like to share about your blog – please feel free to write as much or as little as you want!
I would love to thank all my social media friends, my blog readers and people from other food submissions sites like Yum Google for providing wonderful support and inspiration. It is always a blessing to pursue something you love and I feel humbled when I think that I have my own space to share my love for food with everyone.
