The first time I ever added anything “extra” to my cocoa I fell in love. It was peppermint schnapps and I was visiting my brother. Ever since, I’ve tried many different combinations. A new favorite is what I call Mexicocoa.
Mexicocoa’s base is hot chocolate. You can certainly make your own or use store bought packets as I’ve done. The addition of a bit of Kahlua, or coffee liqueur, and tequila, both Mexican liquors, add warmth and flavor. As does a bit of cinnamon. Garnish with fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon. You could also sprinkle cocoa over the the top if you prefer.
This is definitely a grown up drink! After dinner, enjoy a cup of this delicious Mexicocoa with a slice of frosted chocolate cherry almond bars. A great way to end a meal.
